APPLICATIONS
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are types of computer processing which ‘learn’, improving their capability – often likened to human understanding. The rise of AI and ML has fundamentally changed the way datacenters are built. Traffic patterns have shifted and are now predominantly between clusters of GPUs and CPUs. The need for more bandwidth has exploded, driving the need for lower latency and reconfigurability. Whilst the current generation of AI and ML is built on pluggable optics, similar to that used in datacenters, new technologies, such as linear Drive optics (LDO) or Co- Packaged Optics (CPO) have been proposed to solve some of these challenges.
OpenLight not only brings heterogeneous, laser integration in silicon, but also improvements to the performance, cost and integration of the silicon photonics waveguides, splitters, modulators, gratings, and photo detectors. These enable HPC, CPO and quantum computing that AI and ML systems require.
OpenLight’s design enablement brings ease of design and integrated manufacture to the many companies involved in numerous AI and ML applications, worldwide.
