Silicon Photonics meets AI and data center, high-speed connectivity demands

Adam Carter is featured in the Design News article, “Silicon Photonics Poised for Breakthrough in AI and Data Center Applications."

The demand for high-speed connectivity in AI and data center applications is increasing the adoption of silicon photonics solutions – the only realistic way to achieve the necessary performance. However, silicon photonics is often considered cost prohibitive in other markets.

The article details how OpenLight is advancing silicon photonics to a tipping point of widescale use, in three, key ways:

  1. Heterogeneous integration technology enables multiple components to be manufactured on one chip, with significant manufacturing benefits to size, cost, assembly and reliability.
  2. Making its process development kit (PDK) both open platform and accessible, so companies can design their own photonics solutions and reduce time to market.
  3. 3. Lastly, developing a multi-vendor ecosystem to give customers choice and supply-chain resilience.
