In the article, Dr. Piels explores how rising demand for high-bandwidth, energy-efficient optical interconnects—driven by AI-scale data center growth—is pushing the need for new photonic architectures.
She highlights OpenLight’s heterogeneous integration of III–V materials on silicon, which combines high-performance light sources, modulators, and other photonic components with the scalability of silicon photonics manufacturing.
