OpenLight Advances Heterogeneous Silicon Photonics Toward Volume Production
In a post-ECOC 2026 interview with Jim Carroll of Converge Network Digest, OpenLight CEO Adam Carter explained how the company is tackling volume production, 3.2T silicon photonics, wafer-level testing, NPO/CPO architectures and the scaling of heterogeneous InP-on-silicon photonics for AI.
The central challenge of the industry is whether it can manufacture at the scale demanded by next-generation, AI infrastructure, stated Carter. OpenLight is at the forefront of addressing this challenge, turning its proven heterogeneous III-V/silicon integration technology into a repeatable, commercially viable, semiconductor manufacturing process. It is also expanding beyond a PDK business model to produce customer designs and reference PICs, whilst providing wafer-level testing, burn-in and OSAT-style manufacturing.
In addition, OpenLight has secured $84 million in publicly disclosed funding and appointed Kevin Soukup as COO and Kirk Ouellette as Chief Strategy Officer & Interim CRO. They join from GlobalFoundries and STMicroelectronics respectively, bringing extensive senior leadership and business-scaling experience.
