Dr. Adam Carter is a contributor to the EE Times article, ‘Silicon Photonics Set for Take off’.
Adam Carter, CEO of OpenLight, was a contributor to the EE Times article, ‘Silicon Photonics Set for Take off’, by Alan Patterson, published in October.
The article quotes Yole Group’s forecast of 42% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for the silicon photonics’ market, reaching $850 million by 2029. It then summarises the thoughts of CEO’s in prominent, silicon photonics companies, including OpenLight, Global Foundries, Tower Semiconductor and TSMC.
The prime growth drivers for silicon photonics are 800G transceivers and increased fiber-optic network capacity, to meet AI and data center demand. OpenLight’s silicon photonics processes cover these markets, with the company actively building an ecosystem of silicon photonics manufacturing partners, including software providers like Synopsis and packaging companies like Jabil, to deliver them.
Adam stated, “The DFB laser is what will drive the AI intake inside the data center space,” adding that OpenLight will soon introduce a distributed feedback (DFB) laser for data center applications.
